The perfect healthy Easter treat without any refined sugar AND gluten free…these cute little eggs are made with hemp seeds, ground oats, honey and a mixture of nut butters. Covered in dark chocolate:)
I used to love me a good REese’s Egg for Easter time. However, since I have become older and i’m more aware of what I put in my body- I needed to find a suitable replacement for my Easter Egg Chocolate Delicacy.
And these can be made into any shape you wish whether it be a ball, a square or an easter egg.
With the key ingredients being peanut butter and hemp seeds, one can’t complain…or be drowsy after consuming! Energy and good easter times will be prevalent.
I first discovered this delectable delicacy not in the egg form but in a small ball dipped in dark chocoalate. We were living in southern california at the time and I was working as an ER nurse.
I had a patient for longer than normal in an emergency room setting. She was elderly and sweet with her daughter very attentive at her side.
At the end of my shift that day, her daughter brought me a little goody in a small paper bag. I’m sure she was thinking I would wait to enjoy them during my break or at home but I slipped into some room and popped the treat in my mouth ha!
It was a light brown ball dipped in chocolate. (I’m very trusting clearly) Wow! They were soooo good. When I went back in to thank her, she happily passed along the recipe and I’ve been using it ever since!
I’ve adapted it as per the ingredients that I have available and it is a very flexible recipe. What I like about it, is you CAN be flexible and you don’t need powdered sugar or an orange wrapper marked with REESES on it to get your peanut butter fix! yahoo!
Kids and adults all love these really. And they are pretty easy. Once you have all the ingredients, just throw them all in a bowl and mix.
INGREDIENTS:
- peanut butter/almond butter
- tahini
- honey
- ground oats
- hemp seeds/flaxseeds (optional)
- vanilla
- dark chocolate (I like 85% dark but you can use what you have!)
- cacao nibs (optional)
STEP #1:
Mix together and form into a tiny ball or easter egg shape. I like to use disposable gloves since they aren’t being cooked. The receivers of this treat like it too:) Place on a cookie sheet and chill
STEP #2:
Melt dark chocolate in double broiler and dip or drizzle chocolate over! Sprinkle with sea salt and share with all those you love!
OPTION:
For an immune boosting treat, add turmeric and cinnamon.
Once these are made, I place them in a glass jar and put them in the freezer for a late night snack, quick gift for a nice neighbor, or a reward after walking around. If you/re unlike me, they will last more than a day. Mine go very quickly. Very.[kindred-recipe id=”1402″ title=”Homemade Peanut/Almond Butter Eggs”]
