TUESDAY TIP: how to make sweet potato steak fries in an air fryer

air fryer sweet potatoes

Sweet Potato Steak fries in an Air Fryer takes just 15 min and with the warm fall spices, its an easy crowd pleaser for any occasion.

Sweet Potato Steak Fries.

Those 4 words can mean a world of happiness to most people. Including my husband, who usually might think of the orange ‘not as good regular fry’ when he hears sweet potato fries. However, when you add the word STEAK into the mix. All of a sudden those wimpy sweet potato fries are much more manly SWEET POTATO FRIES. And better yet…for simplicity and to get the steak fries all the same size, get out you Apple Corer Slicer and let it have some time on the counter!

Ok, so back to the Air Fryer. If you didn’t know that the latest and greatest kitchen gadget was the Air Fryer…just ask Food and Wine because they have even put together a “Best Air Fryer of 2020” list. You can see that HERE.

From Jude’s video below…you can tell we are fan favorites…

So what makes the Air Fryer so much better you ask?

Well, they are healthier than the regular old fashioned way of frying….for one really good reason….and Yes! Making “fried” food without a large ladle of oil does sounds too good to be true, but now [enters the air fryer].

Air fryers work their magic by circulating hot air throughout its chamber, giving your food crunchier and crispier skin than if you’d tossed it into the oven.

Not only is ‘air frying’ healthier because of the lack of oil needed…but it also doesn’t produce the mess from popping oil! The little drawer is easy to clean!

This particular recipe is for Sweet Potato Steak Fries, however someday i’ll get to posting about all of the other fun things we like to use our Air Fryer for- like roasting vegetables, or cooking the most tender juicy turkey breast! Or how about a meatloaf? Yes, its been done and it is wonderful.

But now to those manly Sweet Potato Steak Fries that are filling and hearty, yet Fall[ish] and healthy.

INGREDIENTS

  • Sweet potatoes
    • we usually do a mixture of sweet potatoes and yams. Since as you know…yams are the orange ones really and sweet potatoes are tradionally white. But I guess who wants to say “come get your yam fries” haha
  • Olive oil
  • A large bread bag or ziploc bag
    • this is for easy and uniform tossing of the spices and olive oil
  • Cinnamon
  • Cloves
    • could also substitute Pumpkin Pie Spice which could be even MORE fally!
  • Apple corer
    • of course they can be cut with a knife..but that takes longer and it doesn’t make them uniform so get out your apple slicer and let that gadget cut you evenly sliced apple slices:)

EASY WAY TO COAT WITH YOUR FLAVORS…

Take a large plastic bag and dump all your cut fries in. Then spray or drizzle with olive oil and shake. Finish off by sprinkling cinnamon and cloves or salt and pepper. Shake shake shake until all steak fries are coated!

Air fry for 12-5 min depending on the girth of your fries. Then enjoy with all those you love.
