This Spring Strawberry Peach Protein Packed smoothie is the perfect mix of all colorful fruit on the pastel palette. It’s a healthy and quick Spring smoothie complete with high quality protein plus frozen strawberries, frozen peaches and a splash of honey.
This week Jude has been into Smoothies. Although my kids are good eaters…sometimes they just forget to eat or just aren’t hungry! Weird I know.
However, the one constant food group in their diets, is the SMOOTHIE. Whether in an ‘acai’ bowl form, [just a thick smoothie topped with a few frozen blueberries and granola], or a smoothie through a straw form, or a left-over-frozen-smoothie form, they will eat it.
However, when I try to pack in some extras…like too many handfuls of spinach, or too much tart plain Greek yogurt, or even one cacao nib…sometimes anything green…the little people revolt and its a struggle to get them to drink it.
So, this smoothie is a treat. A treat because i’m not demanding it to be green ha! I’m allowing a delicious smoothie that is pink and it is still healthy.
I’m happy that Jude found this variation of a smoothie which uses Greek Yogurt + a tad bit of honey. My kids drank it! Maybe because they were so happy it wasn’t green?? Like this Lime Green Pineapple Smoothie…which I swear they really do like. They were just shocked that I made one for them that was NOT green.
the INGREDIENTS:
- frozen strawberries + frozen peaches + banana
- frozen are best for this recipe because if you use fresh, it would be more ike a juice/liquid drink…not smoothie. So use frozen:)
- of course you can sub out fruit
- Plain Greek Yogurt
- why use Greek instead of regular? GREEK has 20 grams of protein per 8 oz. That’s more than regular.
- Orange juice
- I usually don’t promote using Orange juice but because of the frozen fruit and the tart yogurt, the smoothie needs some liquid. And if you use, “NOT from concentrate” then you are adding natural sugar
- Honey
- Same as OJ. I’m of the belief that a fruit smoothie has enough sugar on its own. However, I also know that if my children/husband taste too much tartness compared to sweetness, they won’t enjoy it. So, seeing that 1 Tablespoon of honey has 16 grams of sugar….1 Tablespoon divided by the 4 cups is only an added 4 grams of sugar! That’s pretty good!
the HOW TO
#1: Blend it all together using your BLENDTEC
Of course you can sub whatever frozen fruit you may have in your possession at the time of making. Just keep it pastel in leu of the season please:)
